About Andy

Time2Drum - Andy Playing The Drums

I have always been passionate about music, largely encouraged by my mum & dad as well as being brought up surrounded by music.

I’ve not always worked in the music industry, I spent 25 years after gaining my honours degree, working in the IT Industry, but I saw the light and decided to leave that high-pressure role to focus on what I really love – music!

I started playing the drums when I was ten, after fortunately being offered lessons at school. I carried on those lessons throughout my whole schooling time alongside playing both drum kit and tuned percussion for the school brass band and musical show performances.

After leaving school I played a whole range of percussion, including drum kit, for a UK Entertainment Championship brass band. Touring the UK and winning various competitions as well as studio recording.

After starting my IT career, my drumming sadly took a back seat and then starting a family took over a lot of my spare time but I kept up my drumming skills and have been back regular drumming for several years.

As well as tutoring, I rehearse and perform regularly with both Fleet Rock Orchestra and Party Tonix as well as session drumming in my own studio fully equipped with both electronic and acoustic kit.

My Services

School Drum Lessons

Working to a rotating timetable, so you don’t miss the same lesson each week, I visit local schools to provide a weekly lesson using the kit provided either by the schools music department or by me.

If you’d rather I came to you in your own home, as long as you’ve got a drum kit, I’m happy to come to you (mileage allowance may apply)

Studio Drum Lessons in my bespoke studio in Church Crookham which is equipped with both electronic and acoustic kit and a whole range of teaching material, both paper and interactive.

Available to drum for regular sessions and studio work providing all my own kit.

Time2Drum - Style

Style

I’m a strong believer in that someone who wants to play an instrument will encourage and believe in themselves. That’s why I’ll never push someone into a fixed approach. I’ll discover their style along their journey of learning and support them throughout.  Grades are always an option and can be a good foundation but they’re certainly not compulsory.  You’ve gotta have fun and want to keep playing for years to come.

Using up to date music and interactive learning, there’s lots of material available for you both in and outside of lessons allowing you to decide the speed you progress.

Time2Drum - Criteria

Criteria

I have both material I’ve built up over the years alongside the RSL RockSchool Sylabus that can be used both for supportive learning and to progress through grades.

There will fundamental stepping stones to work through as you progress and grow in your drumming ability and these will be shared with you on a regular basis to show you how well you’re doing.

Reading music will be included in the tutoring but I fully understand that those students not focusing on grades might just want to use that as a guide.

Varied styles of music will be introduced to build your ability to adapt and play to all music and drum kit maintenance can also be part of your learning if you need that support.

Time2Drum - Facilities

Facilities

When tutoring in schools the kit needed will be provided either by the schools music department or by me so all you need to bring along are some sticks, any music you’re currently working on, and a notebook for making any notes.

If you’re tutored in my studio then again all the kit will be there.

If you prefer to learn in your own home, as long as you’ve got a drum kit, and understanding neighbours, I’m happy to come to you (mileage allowance may apply)

My Philosophy

Have Fun Whilst You Drum

If drumming’s not fun then you’re doing something wrong.

Not only is it fun, it’s a work out!  A chance to socialise with others and make music together as well as keeping you fit in body and mind.

Over the years I’ve had the pleasure in working with some amazing musicians and will continue to perform as long as I can… As long as others will put up with me!
